Science
"At Holy Trinity, we believe a high-quality science education provides strong foundations for understanding the natural world. From an early age, children learn to think and work as scientists by questioning, exploring and investigating the world around them, enabling them to discover scientific phenomena in their immediate environment.
Our science lessons emphasise thinking and speaking like scientists through high-quality modelling and questioning. Practical, hands-on activities are planned to make lessons exciting and memorable. Investigative activities are inspired by real-life links and access to our wildlife garden also provides learners with meaningful experiences.
Scientific knowledge and skills are carefully sequenced so children can build on prior learning as they progress through school. ‘Sticky knowledge’ is identified and revisited regularly to help children to retain key knowledge. Children are encouraged to apply their learning through reasoning and exploration of challenging ideas, while developing independence and confidence in using accurate scientific vocabulary. Opportunities to practise and refine ‘working scientifically skills’ are embedded throughout the curriculum, as well as learning about a diverse range of scientists, past and present.
Above all, our key driver is for our children to foster a genuine love of science and to inspire every child to see themselves as scientists of the future."
